Rubber flat grommets with grooves provide a custom interface where an automotive opening needs a relatively low-profile rubber part. The groove establishes the retaining fit, while the flat form limits how the component occupies space near the panel. Both the visible face and the concealed retaining area need adequate clearance.
Measure the opening and finished wall thickness before choosing the profile. A shallow installation can leave little room for a folded lip, and nearby components may prevent the insert from settling into position. The cable passage must remain aligned with the intended route after the grommet is seated.
Clean and deburr the opening, then work the retaining area into place without pressing a sharp tool through the rubber. Inspect the complete perimeter before closing surrounding covers. Route the cable so it does not continually pull the flat face out of position. Material selection should reflect the actual automotive exposure conditions. During maintenance, check the groove engagement after wiring changes, particularly where access makes the back edge difficult to see once the assembly is closed.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. The groove establishes the retaining fit, while the flat form limits how the component occupies space near the panel. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
