Custom silicone bushes provide a molded interface between an inner component and a surrounding opening. A grommet style can also engage a panel edge, with its profile selected for the installation. For food contact equipment, the actual location of the bush determines which surfaces encounter food, cleaning substances, or other materials.
Develop the inner bore and outer fit together. Compression at the outside can change the bore in a flexible component, so assess the passing part after the bush has been seated. The assembly should locate the rubber without folding a lip or allowing it to move into an unintended gap. Any relative movement needs to be considered in the final fitted configuration.
Select the silicone formulation for the specific contact and cleaning conditions. Keep the bore and surrounding seat accessible to the required cleaning process, and avoid leaving residue trapped beneath an edge. Inspect the rubber after removal, particularly at transitions that were compressed in the joint. A replacement should preserve the exact geometry and formulation used for that food contact location.
