Oil proof rubber plugs can be customized in nitrile rubber for openings exposed to an identified oil or lubricant. The useful selection starts with the actual fluid, its additives and the operating temperature, then establishes a compound and closure profile suitable for those conditions. Other rubber materials are separate options and should be selected on their own suitability.
Determine whether oil merely wets the outside, contacts the inserted body continuously, or can act behind the closure during operation. These are different design conditions. The opening geometry and any retaining arrangement must match the intended use, particularly where the plug may be disturbed during service. A part that closes an opening while equipment is stored may need different retention from one left in place during operation.
Clean the receiving area sufficiently to see its condition before installing the plug. Deposits can conceal a damaged edge or keep the head from seating. During maintenance, inspect the rubber for swelling, cracking or a change in fit that makes removal or reinsertion noticeably different. Replace an affected closure with the correct formulation and dimensions rather than compensating with a tighter size.
Photos illustrate structure or material appearance only. The opening geometry and any retaining arrangement must match the intended use, particularly where the plug may be disturbed during service. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
FIND THE RIGHT FIT
Choose a blind-hole, tapered, undercut or solid T-shaped profile, then compare its dimensions with the opening and available seating depth. Each profile has its own drawing and dimension meanings.
155 T-shaped plug sizes. Match shank diameter A, head diameter B, shank length C and head thickness D. E is the bottom blind-hole diameter; E = 0 indicates a solid shank.
