A rubber protective sheath surrounds a component with a custom shaped covering. A silicone dust cover version can be adapted in size, color, and hardness to the exposed region. The internal profile should follow the covered part and establish where the sheath ends and how it remains in position.
Consider the entire length being covered. A narrow section at the entrance may need to pass a wider feature during installation, and a shoulder farther inside can stop the sheath before it reaches its intended seat. The fitting method should not require excessive stretching at a thin edge. Leave the necessary access around any feature that remains operational or needs servicing.
Select the material for the actual contact and surrounding conditions. Before installation, clean the internal cavity so trapped particles do not remain against the covered surface. Inspect the ends and transitions after removal, where handling can concentrate strain. If the sheath moves with the component in use, evaluate clearance throughout that movement so the rubber is not pinched against adjacent structure or pulled away from its retaining area.
