An automotive cable grommet near a warm component should be evaluated for heat and cable movement together. A rubber compound's condition during operation can influence how it responds to repeated contact with the jacket. Assessing temperature exposure separately from the installed motion may miss the way the two interact.
The grommet's geometry, color and material can be customized. Select the compound for the local temperature, exposure duration and any fluids present. The cable jacket also needs to be appropriate for that location, since both surfaces share the rubbing interface.
Check the route with all nearby components installed and inspect the bore after representative operation. Look for a concentrated contact line, a displaced lip or lasting deformation around the cable. Include warming and cooling periods if they are part of normal use. The retaining groove should remain properly engaged without excessive pressure on the cable. If wear recurs at one side, review the harness support and clearance to the heat source before changing only the grommet material.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. If wear recurs at one side, review the harness support and clearance to the heat source before changing only the grommet material. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
