A wiring harness grommet must accommodate the harness during assembly as well as hold its final position in the panel. A connector, branch junction or taped section may be larger than the cable bundle that ultimately sits in the bore. Establishing the installation sequence early helps avoid overstretching a molded part simply to get the harness through it.
This custom cable bushing can be developed in different profiles and rubber materials. Consider whether the grommet is fitted before terminal assembly, passed over an existing connector or incorporated into a more specialized mounting arrangement. The chosen approach should leave the finished bore and retaining edge intact.
Once the harness is routed, arrange nearby branches so they do not pull against one side of the grommet. A bundle tied too close to the panel can hold the rubber at an angle, while excessive slack may let it rub against neighboring parts. Check the seating around the entire opening after the harness clips have been secured.
Service operations deserve the same attention. If the harness is likely to be removed, allow access to release the grommet without sharp tools against the cable jacket. The custom profile should support both initial assembly and the expected maintenance route.
