Selected for the contact, temperature and movement
Define the visible surfaces and intended color
Develop holes, lips and walls around the mating parts
Match the attachment and installation method
A solid rubber cone plug closes a matching hole through contact along its tapered body. The chosen cone should engage before the entire part disappears into the opening, leaving the intended area available for removal. The smallest and largest diameters therefore need to be considered alongside the cone length.
Custom silicone and other rubber versions can be developed for the opening and its service environment. Compare the hole at the depth where contact will occur, particularly if the opening has a chamfer or a changing bore. The visible mouth alone may not describe the available seating surface.
Insert the plug in line with the opening and stop at its designed seat. Avoid forcing it farther to correct a mismatch, which can make removal difficult and change the contact stress. Before reuse, inspect the taper for cuts and a persistent seating groove. Keep the opening free of residue so a later insertion reaches the intended position rather than stopping against accumulated material.

FIND THE RIGHT FIT
Choose a blind-hole, tapered, undercut or solid T-shaped profile, then compare its dimensions with the opening and available seating depth. Each profile has its own drawing and dimension meanings.
155 T-shaped plug sizes. Match shank diameter A, head diameter B, shank length C and head thickness D. E is the bottom blind-hole diameter; E = 0 indicates a solid shank.
