An automotive plug grommet closes a matching opening in an automotive assembly with a flexible molded part. For an electrical housing or panel, the retained edge and surrounding contact surface need to remain seated after nearby wiring, trim and covers have been installed.
Develop the profile around the finished opening and its thickness, including coatings or local features that affect the groove. Silicone and other custom material choices should be evaluated for the fluids, heat and cleaning substances encountered at that location. The appropriate choice can differ between a sheltered interior position and a more exposed assembly.
Before fitting, remove sharp burrs and residue from the contact area. Engage the retaining feature all the way around, then inspect the opposite face where access permits. Check again after adjacent parts are secured; a displaced wire or trim edge can disturb a closure that was correctly seated earlier.
Water protection depends on the completed interface and the actual exposure. Evaluate the assembled part under its intended conditions rather than treating a close visual fit as evidence of an ingress rating. If maintenance removes the plug, inspect its retaining lip for damage before returning it to the opening.
Photos illustrate structure or material appearance only. For an electrical housing or panel, the retained edge and surrounding contact surface need to remain seated after nearby wiring, trim and covers have been installed. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
