An electrical rubber grommet in a vehicle can have separate contact regions at the body panel and the wiring. For a water-exclusion design, both regions need attention. A well-seated outside flange does not show whether the chosen inner profile suits a jacketed cable or an irregular harness section.
Identify the expected direction of moisture exposure and the surfaces that form the boundary. Panel coatings, a seam beside the opening or a change in the cable covering can influence that boundary. Select the custom profile and compound around those conditions, including the environment on the opposite side of the panel.
Evaluate the entry with the actual harness installed and its supports secured. Inspection should include the less visible interface after the relevant exposure, not only the appearance of the front flange. Keep the vehicle's required electrical and barrier functions defined at assembly level.
When servicing, remove residue from the contact areas and check for a disturbed seat before closing the surrounding trim. If wiring construction changes, reassess water exclusion with the new populated arrangement. Adding pressure against the rubber is not a substitute for a passage that matches the intended harness.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. A well-seated outside flange does not show whether the chosen inner profile suits a jacketed cable or an irregular harness section. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
