A custom automotive electrical grommet provides a rubber interface where wiring crosses an opening in the vehicle structure or equipment housing. SBR and EPDM are material options that should be selected separately for the intended location. The retaining groove and wire passage need to match the actual panel and harness arrangement.
Define the local exposure before choosing the compound. A protected interior position and an opening exposed to heat, water, or service fluids can impose different requirements. Any necessary electrical insulation should also be assessed as a specific property of the chosen formulation and installed design, rather than assumed from the word rubber.
Fit the grommet to a clean, finished opening and inspect the lip around the panel edge. The harness route should leave the bore aligned without pulling the rubber out of its seat. After the vehicle's neighboring parts and harness supports are installed, check the interface again. During repair, preserve the material identity and full profile of the replacement so the wire remains separated from the surrounding edge in its final route.
