A push in rubber grommet should engage the opening before the wire route introduces tension at the entry. Pushing the part in while the cable is already pulled tight can leave one side of the rim trapped or stretched. Establishing the seat first makes the retaining edge easier to inspect and allows the wiring to be arranged around a stable interface.
Match the groove to the finished panel thickness and the passage to the actual wire covering. Check the hole edge for burrs or damaged coating before insertion. The chosen rubber should suit the local exposure, while separate wire supports can keep normal handling force away from the grommet.
Work the lip into place around the perimeter without a sharp tool against the rubber. Route and secure the wires afterward, then inspect the seat again. During service, check the hidden side where access allows, especially if the wires were pulled during another repair. Replace a torn lip rather than leaving the insert retained by only part of its circumference.
