Cone-shaped chloroprene rubber stoppers use a tapered profile to engage a matching opening at a selected depth. The working contact depends on both the taper and the opening diameter, so the largest outside dimension alone is not enough to select the fit. Leave an exposed handling region that permits removal without forcing a tool against the sealing surface.
Check the usable opening depth and the condition of its entrance. A stopper that reaches an obstruction before its taper engages will not sit as intended. Select the chloroprene compound around the actual medium, temperature, and repeated removal expected in the application.
Insert in line with the opening and stop at the designed seating position rather than driving the plug progressively deeper to obtain a tighter feel. Where sealing or pressure retention is required, assess the complete closure under its relevant conditions. After removal, inspect the taper for a cut or persistent contact ridge. Correct rough edges in the opening before fitting a replacement so the same damage is not immediately repeated.

FIND THE RIGHT FIT
Choose a blind-hole, tapered, undercut or solid T-shaped profile, then compare its dimensions with the opening and available seating depth. Each profile has its own drawing and dimension meanings.
155 T-shaped plug sizes. Match shank diameter A, head diameter B, shank length C and head thickness D. E is the bottom blind-hole diameter; E = 0 indicates a solid shank.
