The 4mm rubber grommet is a small cable-protection component with customizable structure, material, dimensions, hardness and color. Check the nominal size alongside the complete dimensions, including the inner opening, outside flange and retaining groove that must match the panel.
Small grommets can be damaged by the tools used to install them. Work with a clean, finished cutout and avoid pushing a pointed edge against the inner lip. A minor nick may be difficult to see once a wire occupies the passage, yet it can become the starting point for a tear.
Consider the terminal or connector during assembly planning. The wire may fit while its termination cannot pass without excessive stretching. Arrange the installation sequence to avoid forcing that larger feature through the rubber. After routing, inspect the retaining section with good lighting and ensure it has not followed the wire into the hole. Leave the wire supported so its movement does not repeatedly tug at the small protective boundary during use.
