Small rubber bumpers provide local cushioning where an equipment component approaches a rigid stop or neighboring surface. The custom molded outline can follow the available contact area, making the bumper useful where a larger standard pad would overlap a nearby feature. Its working projection should be set by the assembled gap.
Look at the path of the approaching part. A straight contact allows a different bumper arrangement from a surface that sweeps past at an angle. If the contact starts at a corner, that corner can carry the initial deformation before the rest of the face is engaged. Position the bumper so the intended contact is distributed across the usable rubber area.
The chosen compound and geometry need evaluation with the actual operating motion. Extra thickness should not prevent the equipment from reaching its required position. During maintenance, compare the contact marks on the bumper with the intended contact location. Marks concentrated outside that area can reveal a shift in the surrounding mechanism even before the bumper is visibly damaged.
