A custom wire grommet can give an OEM vehicle assembly a consistent interface between the harness and its panel opening. The useful design reference is the finished vehicle installation: panel thickness, cable route and assembly access all influence the part that needs to be molded.
Consider when the grommet is fitted in the production sequence. A harness that arrives with connectors already attached may need a different installation approach from wiring terminated after routing. Establish that sequence before choosing the bore and retaining profile so operators do not need to stretch the rubber beyond its intended use.
Material, size and color options can be tailored to the vehicle location. Evaluate heat, fluid exposure and cable movement using the selected compound. At installation, check full engagement around the opening before adjacent trim or equipment hides the rear face. After the nearby harness clips are secured, inspect again for a pulled edge. A repeatable fitting process helps maintain the intended protection without relying on the installer to reposition the cable differently on each assembly.
