Tactile prototype membrane keypads need evaluation in a representative enclosure so the feel of a press can be assessed alongside the actual mechanical fit. The membrane's molded profile, supporting areas and input mechanism together determine that response. A loose button's snap or softness may not carry through unchanged once the housing is secured.
Check the rest position and travel at the intended board spacing. The enclosure should hold locating features without rubbing a moving wall or clamping an active section. Assess central and edge presses where the key shape allows them during ordinary use.
A prototype does not independently establish a final actuation-force value or operating life. During iterative fitting, protect the flexible web and contact surfaces from damage that could be mistaken for a design difference. Inspect the seating after every reassembly before comparing key feel. The selected final arrangement should follow the evaluated geometry rather than a similar visible button profile whose underside or clamping relationship has changed.
