A silicone cable rubber grommet intended for a top seal arrangement must address two interfaces: the outside seat against the housing and the inside contact around the cable. A well seated outer lip does not by itself close a gap beside an undersized cable. Both regions should be developed for the actual cable and enclosure geometry.
On a top surface, consider where liquid can remain after a splash or cleaning. The flange profile, nearby recesses and cable direction may influence whether moisture drains away or collects around the entry. The finished assembly needs evaluation under its intended exposure conditions before a waterproof result can be assigned.
Custom molding allows the cable bore and housing contact profile to be matched to the design. Install the grommet on a clean seat and avoid twisting the cable while the rubber is compressed against the housing. Check that any jacket texture or cable seam does not create an unintended passage. During service, inspect both sealing regions rather than looking only at the visible top flange.
