Selected for the contact, temperature and movement
Define the visible surfaces and intended color
Develop holes, lips and walls around the mating parts
Match the attachment and installation method
Drywall rubber grommet selection begins with the finished opening, including any liner or mounting plate used around it. A flexible rim can separate a cable from the cut edge, but a soft wall surface needs enough support to retain that rim without crumbling under installation pressure. Match the groove to the actual supporting thickness instead of treating an uneven cutout as a standard sheet metal hole.
Plan the cable route before pushing the insert into place. The cable should enter without dragging the grommet sideways, and its weight should be supported where necessary. A tight bend immediately behind the wall can pull one side of the retaining lip out of its seat. Keep joint compound, paint buildup, and loose particles away from the seating surfaces so the edge remains visible during inspection.
Where the entry must resist water, evaluate the cable interface and the wall interface together under the intended exposure. An edge protector alone does not establish a sealed wall assembly. Replace damaged inserts rather than covering displaced lips with surface finishing material.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. A flexible rim can separate a cable from the cut edge, but a soft wall surface needs enough support to retain that rim without crumbling under installation pressure. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
