A silicone washer gasket intended for an oil-related joint needs material selection based on the actual oil and operating conditions. The black appearance does not identify a specific formulation, and an oil-proof description should not be generalized to every lubricant, additive package, or temperature.
Define the contact medium alongside the washer's seating geometry. The inner opening, outside profile, and thickness must suit the mating parts and available compression. A supported ring can still be damaged by a sharp edge or excessive squeezing, independently of whether the formulation is chemically appropriate.
Evaluate the complete joint through the relevant exposure and operating cycle. During service, inspect for swelling, softening, cuts, or extrusion and consider the likely cause rather than treating all damage as ordinary wear.
