A molded firewall rubber grommet fits a cable passage through a vehicle partition. Its outer profile engages the panel opening, while the inner passage accommodates the routed cable or harness. The design should account for the conditions and access on both sides of that partition.
Establish the finished harness arrangement before selecting the bore. Wrapping, branches, and nearby supports can affect how the bundle approaches the opening. The grommet should remain seated after the harness is secured, with the jacket separated from the panel edge. Check the side that becomes difficult to inspect after surrounding components are installed.
Choose the rubber formulation for the local heat, fluid, and maintenance exposure. Any required fire resistance, electrical insulation, or environmental sealing belongs to the specified material and complete assembly assessment; the installation location alone does not establish those ratings.
Plan how the harness and its connector ends cross the partition during assembly. A connector may need to pass before the grommet is seated, and the available working space can determine which side is used for fitting. The sequence should leave the rubber accessible for a full seating check without pulling on the harness to force a retaining section into place.
Smooth the cutout before fitting and keep debris out of the passage. Following service, confirm that the cable route has not displaced the retaining lip or created unintended rubbing at either exit.
