Product Overview

An opening hole grommet creates a flexible border between a panel cutout and the cables passing through it. Its open center leaves room for routing wires while the surrounding rubber covers the edge of the opening. This arrangement is useful when a cable must cross a thin enclosure wall without resting directly against the cut edge. It also gives the entry point a more finished appearance.

For a control enclosure or equipment housing, begin with the panel rather than the cable alone. Record the cutout diameter, panel thickness and required clear passage. The retaining groove must accommodate the panel, while the inner opening needs enough space for the intended cable bundle. A tightly packed bundle can distort the part or make later maintenance difficult, so include any planned changes to the wiring in the initial fit review.

The compound should be chosen around the actual environment, including contact with oils, exposure to heat and the amount of movement at the entry point. These conditions should be discussed individually rather than assuming that every rubber formulation has the same resistance.

Seat the groove evenly around the entire opening, then route the cable without pulling the rubber out of position. Where the cable experiences tension, provide suitable strain relief elsewhere in the assembly; an edge protector alone does not establish a cable retention rating. Periodically inspect the contact area for wear, displacement or cracking. For a quotation, send the panel drawing together with the cable dimensions and the expected operating conditions.
