Rubber oval grommets line elongated openings where an electrical cable group needs more width than height. The shape can suit a flattened bundle arrangement and help route wiring through a narrow panel area. The cable group should follow that geometry naturally, without being compressed into an opening that is too shallow.
Measure the panel cutout along both axes and check the radius of its ends. The central passage and the panel-retaining groove are separate sizing features. A wide flange can hide an incorrectly matched opening, so the appearance of the front face is not enough to confirm secure seating.
Arrange the conductors before passing them through, keeping bulky joins away from the narrowest part of the opening. Where movement is expected, support the bundle so it does not repeatedly drag across one end of the oval. The rubber provides an edge interface; it should not be treated as a substitute for the electrical insulation required by the wiring design. Inspect both the grommet and cable jackets during servicing.
