Rubber ribbed tube bungs close steel tube ends with a profile that engages the bore at several ribbed sections. The ribs need room to deform as intended during fitting. An internal weld seam, heavy coating or rough cut can concentrate that deformation on one side and prevent the head from sitting evenly against the tube end.
Check the inside dimensions of the finished tube rather than selecting from its outside width alone. Wall thickness directly changes the opening available to the bung. Include the position of any seam when evaluating the sample, especially where the ribs first enter the tube.
The profile, compound, hardness and color can be adapted for the application. A softer rib may be easier to insert but still needs sufficient retention for the expected handling; a harder one should not be forced past a damaging obstruction. Develop the fit using the tube as it will actually be supplied.
Deburr the cut end and insert the bung in line with the bore. Examine the head around its perimeter once seated. If one side remains raised, remove the part and identify the obstruction rather than striking the exposed face harder. Inspect the ribs for tearing whenever a bung is removed for reuse.

FIND THE RIGHT FIT
Choose a blind-hole, tapered, undercut or solid T-shaped profile, then compare its dimensions with the opening and available seating depth. Each profile has its own drawing and dimension meanings.
155 T-shaped plug sizes. Match shank diameter A, head diameter B, shank length C and head thickness D. E is the bottom blind-hole diameter; E = 0 indicates a solid shank.
