A silicone compression grommet creates a compliant interface around a sleeve or cable passage within a matching assembly. Its behavior depends on how the surrounding parts hold and compress the rubber. The component should be selected with the installed space in mind, rather than by its relaxed outside diameter alone.
Compression can change the internal opening as well as the outer profile. Leave adequate passage for the cable or tube after the assembly is tightened, and consider whether the surrounding hardware limits deformation. Excessive squeeze can distort the sleeve, push rubber into an unwanted gap or transfer pressure to a delicate tube.
Check the assembled fit at the intended fastening position. Any sealing requirement needs evaluation with the actual mating surfaces and service conditions; a rubber sleeve by itself does not establish a pressure rating. When dismantling the joint, release compression before withdrawing the part. Replace a grommet that has torn edges or no longer returns sufficiently to maintain its intended fit.
