A drywall rubber grommet should be fitted around a stable, finished opening so its retaining surface has something consistent to engage. Loose gypsum, rough cut edges, or finishing material left on the seat can interfere with the fit. Where the wall opening needs a supporting liner or plate, that component becomes part of the dimensions used to select the silicone rubber insert.
Check the cable route before installation. The cable should cross the opening without forcing the grommet against a fragile edge or pulling the wall surface apart. Provide suitable cable support where its weight or movement would otherwise act directly on the entry.
Complete dusty finishing operations before seating the part, then remove loose particles from the contact area. Inspect the perimeter after the cable is arranged in its final position. The grommet's edge protection does not by itself establish a fire, electrical, or water performance classification for the wall assembly. If the entry is altered during later work, reassess the support and fit instead of leaving a partly seated insert hidden beneath surface trim.
