A cable protective grommet places silicone between a routed cable and the surrounding panel edge. Its custom dimensions should match the finished cutout while leaving appropriate clearance for the cable jacket. The rubber boundary protects best when the cable crosses in its intended position without forcing the lip aside.
Check the route on both sides of the panel. A cable support moved during assembly can draw the jacket against one part of the opening, concentrating wear there. Arrange the supports before the final fit inspection so the actual working direction is represented.
Choose the formulation for the local environment and keep the panel edge smooth before seating the part. Guide connectors through without scraping the inner surface, then examine the grommet for displacement. During maintenance, look at the jacket as well as the rubber; a damaged section may indicate the passage has been overloaded or misaligned. Restore the intended route when replacing the protector. A different cable or added sleeve should prompt a clearance check rather than being forced into the original opening on the assumption that silicone will simply stretch enough.
