Wire protector rubber grommets cushion wiring against a panel cutout. Their structure, material, dimensions, hardness and color can be customized, allowing the protective profile to suit the enclosure. The rubber should occupy the intended space without being excessively squeezed by the surrounding assembly.
Check the part after adjacent covers or fasteners are secured. A retaining flange that was flat on the loose panel may become trapped by another component. That pressure can narrow the wire passage or push the grommet out of alignment. Leave clearance for the complete profile, not only its center opening.
The wire route also affects compression. A tightly tied bundle can press into one side while the other side remains unloaded. Arrange supports so the wires cross naturally and do not use the grommet as the only restraint against movement. During inspection, look for a distorted inner lip and for contact marks on the wiring. Correct the fit or routing before replacing a damaged part. A slightly softer compound should not be used to hide interference from an incorrectly positioned enclosure feature.
