Custom silicone rubber seal rings fit a defined joint using a profile selected for its mating surfaces. The ring's section, diameter, and contact band should be coordinated with the space available for compression. A gasket style may require a different supported area from a circular O ring section.
Choose the silicone formulation for the actual medium and temperature, including substances used during maintenance. The ring should sit without twisting, folding, or being stretched into an unsuitable outline. Clean the joint before placement and prevent the rubber from shifting as the parts close. Evaluate the completed seal under the intended operating conditions rather than applying a universal performance claim to the material. After disassembly, inspect the working surface and any area that was compressed against a groove edge. A replacement should preserve the original section and formulation as well as the visible outline, so the supporting parts apply the intended contact instead of relying on additional tightening to correct a mismatch.
