A silicone hole plug closes an opening with a molded rubber part sized for the receiving feature. It can be customized in dimensions, hardness, and color, making it useful when a standard closure does not match the part being assembled. The fit should be based on the portion of the plug that actually seats in the opening.
The visible head and the inserted body may perform different roles. Check the insertion depth, the opening profile, and the space available behind the surface. A plug that bottoms out too early may not seat properly at the face, even when the opening diameter appears suitable.
Fit the closure into a clean opening without forcing the rubber across a sharp edge. After insertion, look for uneven compression or a lifted side. Select the compound for the actual temperature and substances at the installation point; silicone alone does not establish a universal operating limit. Keep the plug accessible if removal is part of normal service, and replace it if its seating surface becomes damaged.
