A Rubber shock grommet places a custom rubber interface at an opening or mounting point. Its retained portion holds it in the surrounding component, while another region provides the intended cushioning. Those areas should be defined separately so the mounting arrangement does not prevent the rubber from moving where it needs to.
Review the surfaces that clamp or locate the part. A nearby washer, bracket or wall can restrict the flexible region if it overlaps too far. Conversely, a loose retaining fit can let the whole grommet move instead of allowing controlled deformation within the rubber. Custom structure, dimensions, material, hardness and color are available to suit the joint.
Trial the part in the assembled position under its actual working condition. Check for a change in alignment as the supported element settles, and inspect whether any rigid surfaces touch around the rubber. During maintenance, look at the retaining section as well as the exposed cushion. Damage at the mount can reveal an installation problem that a softer replacement would not solve.
