Flat cable grommets should suit the cable's width, thickness and preferred bending direction. A passage developed only from the width can squeeze the broad faces, while an overly generous opening may leave the narrow edges poorly guided. The molded profile should support the actual cable shape at the panel.
Custom materials and dimensions are available for the industrial mounting. Consider how the flat cable approaches the opening and whether it needs to turn immediately afterward. Twisting a flat cable to meet an incorrectly oriented passage can load the rubber unevenly and create a sharp bend near the edge.
Evaluate the grommet with representative cables and their normal dimensional variation. Check that the retaining portion seats independently of the cable, then inspect the passage after the route is secured. The housing should leave room for the cable's permitted bend rather than forcing it against the flange.
Where the flat cable is assembled with a connector already attached, verify the threading sequence before closing the housing. The connector width and height may exceed the working passage dimensions. An earlier installation step can avoid stretching the rubber or folding the cable to pass the termination.
During maintenance, examine both broad faces and narrow edges of the cable near the exit. A wear mark on one edge can indicate misalignment even when the top face looks undamaged. If the cable type changes, review the thickness and bending behavior as well as the overall width before reusing the existing profile.
