Selected for the contact, temperature and movement
Define the visible surfaces and intended color
Develop holes, lips and walls around the mating parts
Match the attachment and installation method
The closed center of a blind rubber grommet covers an unused opening, while its perimeter retains the part in the panel. Both regions need appropriate geometry. A thick center cannot compensate for a lip that only partly engages the receiving wall.
Custom dimensions and compound choices allow the plug to follow the finished opening. Identify the wall thickness, edge condition and access for installation. The selected material should suit the temperature, fluids and exposure at that position.
Work the retaining area into place without folding it behind the visible face. Where access permits, inspect both sides before other components hide the rear. Evaluate the completed closure for its intended sealing and handling duties. During service, look for a center pushed out of position and for cuts around the groove. If the part has been removed, clear particles from its seat before refitting. A new passage requirement should be handled with the developed cable entry version rather than an informal cut through the blank center.
