Cable rubber oval grommets provide an elongated opening where several wires need to cross a panel edge. The useful passage is the inside opening remaining after the grommet is seated, not the full area of the bare cutout. This distinction matters when a cable bundle may change during assembly or later servicing.
Compare the current bundle with the largest approved wiring configuration. Allow for the position of the wires rather than assuming they will pack into a perfectly regular shape. A connector or protective sleeve may also need to pass through at installation. If it cannot, review the assembly sequence instead of forcing it through and dislodging the retaining flange.
Check both axes of the internal passage and the groove width against the cable arrangement and panel thickness. Increasing the long axis does not necessarily create enough clearance for a bulky connector on the short axis. Nearby components also need room for the outer flange, including on the hidden side of the panel.
ETOL can develop a custom profile when the approved wiring configuration does not suit a listed entry. Once the cables are routed, inspect the grommet for stretching and confirm that the bundle is not levering it against one curved end. During a wiring change, check the entry again before closing the enclosure. Keeping the cable route within the intended passage helps preserve edge protection without treating the rubber as spare space for an increasingly crowded bundle.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. The useful passage is the inside opening remaining after the grommet is seated, not the full area of the bare cutout. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
