A rubber wire grommet cushions the contact between a cable route and a panel opening. For a group of cables, select the passage around the completed bundle rather than adding nominal wire diameters together. Sleeving, wrapping and the way the cables lie can change the space they require.
Check the panel-retaining dimensions independently of the central passage. The grommet should grip the receiving edge while leaving the bundle an appropriate route through it. Large connectors may also affect the assembly sequence, especially if they cannot pass through the opening after termination.
Install into a deburred cutout and keep the cable jackets from being trapped beneath the outer flange. Support the route where needed so the grommet does not carry the bundle's weight or repeated pulling force. During service, inspect for a changed cable arrangement that now presses against one side. Adding another wire can alter the original fit, so reassess the entry instead of assuming spare visible space always represents suitable capacity.
