A carbon pill rubber silicone keypad provides molded buttons whose underside contacts operate a matching circuit. In a custom layout, the relationship between those contacts and the board must remain consistent across the entire sheet. A control near a housing screw may experience different restraint from one near the center.

Compare operation by location with the enclosure secured. If one region responds differently, examine how the board is supported beneath it and whether the keypad perimeter is evenly seated. Increasing pressure on the case can conceal a positioning problem while changing the feel of neighboring controls.
