A custom EPDM rubber waterproof gasket should follow the entire joint around the region being protected. The contour and thickness need support from the mating surfaces, while the finished EPDM formulation must suit the actual exposure. The gasket's role depends on its assembled contact, not simply on its loose shape.
Inspect corners, fastener areas and changes in surface level before closing the joint. A small displaced section can interrupt the water barrier while most of the perimeter looks correct. Evaluate the complete assembly under the intended water conditions, including neighboring joints that provide separate possible entry paths.
During installation, keep the rubber free of twists and trapped debris. When the joint is reopened, inspect for rubbing and local damage where parts move or approach the sealing path. Clean the seat before fitting a replacement and restore the specified contour.
