A colored rubber washer can contribute to the appearance of an exposed joint as well as provide a flexible contact layer. With a thicker custom profile, more of the edge may remain visible between the mating components. Color, outline, and installed compression therefore influence the finished result together.
The visible width should be considered after the assembly closes. Rubber displaced beyond the contact land can make the edge look uneven and may indicate that the compression space is unsuitable. The opening and outer dimensions need to fit the seat without forcing material into adjacent clearances.
Select the compound for the actual service environment before finalizing the color. Pigmentation does not identify the material or establish its suitability for a particular fluid. Fit the washer evenly so the exposed edge remains consistent around the joint. During cleaning, avoid pulling at a projecting section. If the edge becomes distorted, examine the mating faces and clamping arrangement rather than trimming away rubber that may be part of the intended contact geometry.
