A custom rectangular flat FKM/FPM rubber gasket seals between mating surfaces that support its defined outline. The outer dimensions, inner opening, and thickness should be coordinated with the available contact band. The corners and straight sections need to remain located as the joint closes.
A flat gasket should not be stretched to make its corners reach a mismatched seat, because this can change its thickness and contact along the sides. Clean the mating faces and place the part without folds or trapped particles. The fastening arrangement should apply the compression intended by the joint design rather than rely on extra tightening to correct a dimensional mismatch. After disassembly, inspect the contact pattern around the full rectangle, including less visible sections near hardware. Replacement should preserve the exact thickness and material configuration as well as length and width, so the original supported sealing relationship is restored. Preserve the rectangular corner radii when comparing replacement profiles.
