A rubber wire washer provides an annular interface around a wire route where the supporting face and central passage need controlled separation. In a harness assembly, that geometry should be distinguished from a deeply grooved panel insert. The washer's contact area, thickness, and locating arrangement determine how it stays between the adjoining parts.
Check the opening through the complete stack of components. A washer aligned on one face can still leave a wire close to a sharp edge farther inside the assembly. Keep the inner diameter compatible with the finished bundle and the outer diameter fully supported by its intended seat.
Position the washer before securing the harness, and avoid dragging it sideways while bringing adjacent hardware together. A separate harness support may be needed to keep normal cable tension away from the interface. On service removal, inspect for an off center wear pattern or an edge pinched beneath a fastener. These signs can reveal a locating problem that should be corrected before the next washer is installed.
