Product Overview

Custom rubber keypads provide the touch surface for a push button membrane switch arrangement. They can be made as a group of keys or as individual button forms, with dimensions, color, and markings developed around the control panel. The rubber geometry and the switch beneath it need to work together through the entire press and release movement.

The first consideration is the distance between the resting key and its switching surface. Too much distance may require excessive travel; too little can leave the switch partly engaged after assembly. Panel thickness, internal supports, and the way the enclosure is tightened all contribute to this relationship. Assess the completed stack of parts rather than judging the loose keypad by its feel alone.

Key shape also affects presses made away from the center. A wide button can be approached at one end, so trials should include those less ideal finger positions. Adjacent controls should remain independent when a key is held down. After release, the key needs to return without catching the surrounding opening.

Printed, raised, recessed, or color-filled legends can identify the commands. Place those markings where they remain visible within the assembled panel and use a clear orientation across the key group. Keep the underside clean during assembly so that particles do not interfere with the switching interface or the free movement of the keys.

Material options
Rubber. Custom formulation and color for the intended contact conditions.
Hardness selection
Rubber: 30–90 Shore A. The rubber geometry and the switch beneath it need to work together through the entire press and release movement.
Custom dimensions
After release, the key needs to return without catching the surrounding opening.
Fit & assembly
Keep the underside clean during assembly so that particles do not interfere with the switching interface or the free movement of the keys.
Use & inspection
Too much distance may require excessive travel; too little can leave the switch partly engaged after assembly.

Ordering this custom component

Can the shape be adjusted to my mating parts?

Yes. Show the receiving opening, contact surfaces and clearance limits. We can review the dimensions and retaining features around the intended fit.

Which details should be agreed before tooling?

Agree the critical dimensions, material, hardness, visible surfaces and sample requirements. Explain how the part is installed and which interfaces control its function.

Can a sample help define the replacement?

A sample can help explain the structure. Compare it with the assembly because wear, swelling or compression may have changed its original dimensions.

How is the quotation for this part determined?

The material, part geometry, tooling, quantity and finishing affect the quotation. Include the intended batch size and delivery destination when describing your requirements.
