A round flat silicone rubber gasket provides a circular sealing layer with a flat cross section. The inside opening, outside edge, and thickness can be customized for the mating faces. The gasket should lie within the supported sealing area rather than extending into an opening or over an unsupported outer edge.
Check the receiving surfaces together. A shoulder or recessed seat can control both the available width and the final compression. Similar outside diameters do not establish interchangeability if the inner opening or thickness differs. The selected compound must also suit the actual medium and operating temperature.
Place the gasket flat on clean surfaces and keep it centered while the parts close. Avoid stretching it over an oversized locating feature or using excess fastening force to make an incorrect section fit. Inspect the assembled joint under its intended conditions. During service, look for pinched edges, residue, and damage to the mating faces. A replacement should restore the designed contact area rather than compensate for an uneven or damaged seat.
