A silicone rubber gasket should be matched to its joint format and actual thermal exposure. A flat face gasket and an O-ring seated in a groove require different sections and support, even if both use silicone. Where food contact is intended, assess the selected formulation and finished seal for the relevant substance, temperature, and cleaning conditions.
Define the outline or ring dimensions and the gap after the assembly closes. Include changes during heating and cooling that affect the available compression. The mating surfaces should support the rubber where pressure or movement acts on it.
Fit the selected format without folds or twist and keep the contact path clean. Assess the completed joint through the relevant operating cycle. During service, inspect the old seal for damage corresponding to a hardware feature before replacement.
