An EPDM rubber washer and a Buna-N gasket may share similar dimensions while serving different material requirements. This custom offering allows the profile to follow the joint, with compound selection based on the actual temperature and substances present. Neither material should be treated as a universal substitute for the other.
Consider the operating cycle and the cleaning process. A seal may encounter one medium during use and another during maintenance, while heat can reach it through the mating surfaces. Select the formulation with those conditions in mind before finalizing hardness and thickness.
Measure the supported contact area and the closing gap to define the washer section. Install it flat without stretching the center opening, and use the assembly's intended closing arrangement. During servicing, inspect the ring and seat together for uneven compression, cuts, or material changes.
