A round rubber washer places a flat, compliant ring between circular mating surfaces. It can be customized for uses such as a bottle mouth or pipeline joint, with the material and dimensions chosen for the actual interface. The inside opening, outside edge and thickness determine how much rubber is available on the sealing face.
Match the annular width to the supported area. A broad washer on a narrow rim can leave material unsupported on either side, while an undersized washer may not cover the intended contact band. Check any chamfer or radius near the hole because it can reduce the usable flat face even when the nominal diameters appear correct.
Bring the mating parts together without displacing the ring sideways. If assembly involves rotation, observe whether the washer remains flat or begins to drag with one surface. Select the compound around the fluid and cleaning process, and keep the faces free of residue. A damaged rim or distorted mating part should be corrected as part of service; adding a thicker washer can change closure without resolving the underlying contact problem.
