A round rubber washer with grooves includes recessed features that must be interpreted as part of the working profile. A groove may correspond to a locating or contact feature in the receiving assembly; it should not be assumed to serve as a fluid channel simply because it forms a recess in the rubber.
Establish which side faces each mating component. The groove's position relative to the bore and outer edge can make orientation important even when the loose washer appears symmetrical from a distance. Compare the whole cross section with the intended seat, including the lands beside the groove that will make contact.
During fitting, ensure those lands reach their mating faces without the groove being flattened by an incompatible projection. Keep residue out of the recess so its geometry remains available for the intended function. For replacement, inspect the old groove under good visibility and distinguish trapped deposits from damaged rubber. The custom material and dimensions should match the actual joint duty. A flat washer with the same diameter cannot reproduce the recessed profile or its locating relationship.
