A neoprene rubber gasket for flange use can be shaped around an irregular joint with narrow sections or nonstandard corners. Those features need to align with their supporting faces throughout the outline. A gasket that reaches the main bolt positions may still leave a small sealing section folded or unsupported.
Define the contact profile and thickness together with the material formulation. Neoprene suitability depends on the actual medium, temperature and cleaning exposure, while the flange arrangement determines the required compression. The molded shape does not independently establish a pressure capability.
Inspect the entire gasket before the flange is closed, paying attention to portions hidden behind hardware. Avoid stretching a corner to correct a mismatched outline. During maintenance, examine whether recurring damage follows a receiving edge or local misalignment. Restore that geometry before fitting another part, and preserve the intended section so a thicker replacement does not alter the joint without addressing the original source of concentrated contact.
