An EPDM rubber grommet with grooves provides a custom molded interface at an equipment opening. The groove profile establishes how the rubber locates against the receiving feature, while the central passage accommodates the intended cable or component. Groove dimensions should be matched to the actual seat rather than judged from the visible flange.
Check the width and depth of the retaining area against the finished wall thickness and edge shape. A groove that is too loose can allow movement, while an overly tight fit can leave the rubber folded or incompletely seated. The compound also needs to suit the substances and temperatures at the installation point.
Fit the grommet into a clean, smooth opening and inspect the groove engagement around the perimeter. Route the cable before the final check, since its direction can load one side of the insert. Keep the cable supported as required by the equipment design. During servicing, recheck the seating after wiring changes and replace damaged rubber before an exposed edge can contact the jacket.
