Custom manhole cover rubber sealing follows the joint between a cover and its matching frame. The sealing profile must agree with the channel or contact face around that perimeter, including corners, joints and any interruptions near the cover hardware. Overall cover dimensions alone are not enough to define the rubber section.
Consider how the cover reaches its seated position. A seal that is too large for its receiving space can be dragged out of place or prevent the cover from resting as designed. An undersized section may leave uneven contact along part of the frame. The chosen compound must suit the environment and any substances encountered at the joint.
Clean the sealing surfaces before fitting and inspect the perimeter for local damage that could cut the rubber. Evaluate the completed cover assembly for its intended sealing duty; the rubber component does not establish a traffic-load capacity or gas-tight rating. When the cover is serviced, check that the seal remains in its channel and has not been pinched or stretched at an edge.
