A rubber bumper in an oil-exposed device needs a compound selected for the specific substance and operating conditions. Oil-proof is not a universal property covering every lubricant, additive, temperature and contact duration. The molded part's geometry must also suit the way the device meets and loads its contact face.
Check whether exposure is occasional contamination or continuous contact, and consider the cleaning products used around the same area. Material suitability should be evaluated alongside the required deformation. A bumper that swells or changes shape can alter the contact position even before it tears.
Mount the component so the intended face receives contact without a sharp adjoining edge cutting the rubber. Evaluate its behavior within the complete device rather than inferring a specific damping value from the product category. During service, inspect for swelling, surface changes and loosening at the attachment. Address a leak or contamination source where appropriate before fitting a replacement into the same unexamined exposure conditions.
