Custom oval EPDM rubber grommets fit a wiring harness interface with an elongated outer profile. The shape should correspond to the panel cutout and the intended harness orientation. Its long axis can be positioned around the routing space available, while the passage and retaining section are dimensioned for the actual assembly.
Establish the harness route before neighboring panels or trim make the opening difficult to reach. The bundle should approach without forcing one curved end of the grommet away from its seat. Check the outer groove around the whole perimeter and confirm that the final harness supports do not rotate the rubber from its intended orientation.
Choose the EPDM formulation for the local exposure and maintenance conditions. The receiving edge should be finished before fitting, and the bore should remain free from debris as the harness is threaded. Following repair, inspect the hidden lip as well as the visible flange. A replacement should match the oval profile and groove width, since similar overall dimensions can still leave a different relationship with the panel thickness.
